ECP 2026 Stockholm: 12-16 September 2026

Innovation driving excellence in pathology

September 2026 in Stockholm: why go? It is not only an archipelago of 14 interconnected islands where you can get lost around its beautiful museums, the Vasa viking ship, the Royal Palace, the Skansen open-air museum or experience the Stockholm Syndrome. Between September 12-16, 2026, Stockholm will host the 38th European Congress of Pathology (ECP 2026), the largest  pathology event in Europe. It will be  held at the Stockholmsmässan Congress Center where more than 5,000 professionals from around the world will convene for the theme “Innovation driving excellence in Pathology.” This year’s congress follows ECP historic tradition and current outstanding standing  in pathology by offering a rich scientific program,  keynote lectures, symposia, and interactive sessions that reflect the dynamic evolution of new knowledge and discoveries in pathology.

One key symposium was a Special Session on Education in Pathology jointly sponsored  by the European Society of Pathology (ESP) and the International Academy of Pathology (IAP), and titled: “The global pathologist: adventures and trials from scholarship to mentorship.” This symposium was held on Sunday, September 13. The four invited speakers reflected on the educational dimensions of pathology practice across diverse realities and contexts. As pathology increasingly intersects with global health, digital diagnostics, and personalized medicine, the session laid the ground for timely questions about incorporating such role in education, mentorship, and training.

The discussion was enriched by perspectives from both ESP and IAP leadership, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, teaching and learning, and training pathways in pathology education, research, and clinical practice in order to empower the future of pathology.

This joint session exemplified the spirit of collaboration that defines ECP and underscored the role of teaching and mentorship as a cornerstone of  pathology—regardless of where we come from.

As the field continues to evolve, sessions like this remind us that the future of pathology is not only about technological advancement but also about shared values and responsible practice, keeping in mind that the first focus should be education of future generations of pathologists.
